Effective 1 Jun 17, adoption fees for kittens and cats were increased to $250. Despite ongoing public support and generous donations we need to make an increase to help us recover a bit more of our costs for each cat. We do not receive any government funding and rely solely on the donations of generous businesses and community members. We simply cannot sustain an animal rescue organisation without covering ongoing veterinary expenses.
The increased fee is applicable to new kittens/cats who joined our care from this date. Kittens and cats who were in our care prior to 1 Jun 17 remain available for adoption at $200. Please check individual profiles for the correct adoption fee.
Q. Why should I pay your adoption price?
A. Vet care for rescue pets costs money, which our not-for-profit organisation must recover, at least in part, in order to continue rescuing cats and dogs.
- Adoptions inside our local area include a vet examination, 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, micro-chip and sterilisation at 6 months of age.
- Adoptions outside our local area include a vet examination, 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment and a $100 refund upon SWAR receiving a copy of the sterilisation / micro-chip certificate.
- Vet examination, 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, sterilisation and micro-chip.
Our adoption fees do not cover the vet treatments listed above, let alone the cost to buy food, litter, toys and bedding, nor does it take into account the hours our volunteers contribute to look after the animals in our care.
The reason we can offer our animals at such a discounted rate, which includes all of the above vet work, is through the support and generosity of local veterinary clinics.
The adoption fee for a rescue pet vary greatly for different rescue groups (our exact prices are listed above). Pets that are advertised for ‘free’ online, or purchased from a pet store (without basic inclusions), still require vet examinations, vaccinations, flea & worm treatment, micro-chip and sterilisation. So when you think about it, rescue pets (with the above items included) are worth every dollar!
